The Titanic - A Story of Pride, Tragedy and Scandal.
The story of the Titanic has fascinated the world unlike any other shipwreck in naval history. A plethera of articles, films and books, have detailed the awful tragedy of the RMS Titanic. Both the 1950's version of the Titanic's sinking, "A Night to Remember' and the more recent film have been very popular. James Cameron's 1997 box office hit"Titanic" was so popular with viewers that it succeeded in breaking a number of box office sales records.
Over the years, there has been a wealth of legends and myths surrounding the events of the night of April 15, 1912. Whereas some of the myths may well be true, others have simply developed from the imagination of the hundreds of people who have become almost obsessed with the sinking of the Titanic. Some of the stories can be traced back to accounts given by the 705 survivors. Naturally, several embellished their own story. Perhaps the most notorious of these was the 'unsinkable' Molly who is suspected of having added more than a little flair to her account.
What is not in doubt is the enormity of the tragedy. 2229 passengers and crew embarked on The Titanic’s fateful maiden voyage. All but 705 perished, leaving behind thousands of bereaved. The scandal as to who was to blame has rumbled on ever since.
The tragic sinking of the Titanic and history of both those who survived and were lost, will forever be remembered with nostalgia and sadness.
